If you already have plans for Aussie Day, fear not, because on the last Friday of each month and selected Sundays during summer, Cittaslow Goolwa presents this awesome event At The Wharf. Cittaslow (“slow town”) is a global movement that promotes a sense of community and a philosophy of enjoyment, and Goolwa was the first town in Australia to be accredited.  There are now three Cittaslow towns in Australia.

The Cittaslow movement began in Italy in 1986 where people were encouraged to identify and use local food and produce and allow time to enjoy eating with family and friends. It’s all about taking time out to think about what we should be doing and how we should be doing it. Over 50 countries have now embraced the philosophy.

Local, seasonal food is always the main focus at any Cittaslow Goolwa event and, being so close to many wine regions, everyone can try out the local wines as well. Throw some local music into the mix and you have a popular event called ‘At the Wharf’.

Australia Day 2018 will be celebrated by many Goolwa locals as well as the surrounding towns and also visitors from around South Australia ‘At the Wharf’ held on the deck and surrounding grassed area of Signal Point Gallery.

Kick up your heels with local band, Matt and The Maniacs – with guest singer Suzi from 5pm – 8pm. Enjoy a glass or two of Bleasdale  and Currency Creek wines or if you prefer, a few nice cold Coopers beer! There will be Goolwa cockles to feast on and the Cittaslow, locally made, sausage sizzle! Bring your own picnic blanket, chairs and even a wine glass if you want, (although there will be glasses available at the event for a small refundable deposit).  Last but not least, slow down and enjoy the company of good friends… All this and it’s a FREE event.
