Art Galleries of Goolwa
Goolwa is gaining quite a reputation as an art-hub and it is certainly well deserved. There’s a small collection of charming galleries in town, each with its own special character.
Many visitors to Goolwa enjoy spending the day visiting the local galleries and finish off by stopping at one of the boutique cafes for some coffee and cake or a glass of wine. Sounds like a fabulous day to me!

Artworx Gallery & Gifts

Hailed as the finest contemporary gallery on the Fleurieu, Artworx Gallery & Gifts is a must-see venue! It quickly gained, not only a fine reputation, but numerous awards in recognition of its contribution to the local arts scene and local artists.
Artworx is housed in an 1850’s cottage right in the heart of the Goolwa heritage precinct. Artworx features beautiful hand-blown glass, pottery and jewellery – sourced by gallery owner, Wendy Middleton from around Australia as well as imported pieces from Africa, Morocco, South America, India and Indonesia. It also features original oils, water colours, acrylics and pastels by a diverse range of talented South Australian artists, including many from the Fleurieu region.

When long term locals, Liz and John Francis took over the gallery they added new gift ware and jewelry lines to the collection as well as unique furniture items, so it’s an exciting time to pay a visit.
You’ll find an array of handcrafted timber bowls which are both functional and decorative.

There really is something for everyone at Artworx Gallery & Gifts from unique glassware, pieces made from stainless steel, recycled corrugated iron, wood and ceramic too, traditional paintings, furniture, bags and baskets made from leather, natural materials or arty fabrics, floaty scarves,even gift cards! There is no need to be an art connoisseur to marvel at this remarkable gallery.

The second on our list of art galleries of Goolwa is Art@Goolwa Inc (ironically). It is a cooperative of 25 local artists exhibiting original work and encouraging art in the local community.

The gallery showcases a rich and diverse collection of artwork by award winning artists across all mediums including photography, sculpture, jewellery, pottery, textile and wood, mosaics, metal, glass and much more. It’s easy to spend an entire hour browsing over the large variety of unique items.

Signal Point Gallery
Last but certainly not least on our list is Signal Point Gallery. Located at The Wharf Precinct, Signal Point sits proud between the bridge to Hindmarsh Island, the water, and the Cockle Train Station.
This contemporary warehouse style building offers a large art exhibition space, showcasing the talent of local and travelling artists, they also offer a number of workshops and regular events.

Signal Point Gallery is a great space for those interested in art but you don’t need to be an art buff to enjoy and appreciate all that is displayed in there. There are also many pieces that overseas tourists would find of interest if they are wanting to get an insight into Australian life with many pieces featuring the ocean, horse riding, cattle stations and portraits of local characters.

If you have worked up an appetite exploring all Signal Point Gallery has to offer, you may want to pop next door to their cafe, ‘Cafelicious’. They serve great coffee and delicious light meals with stunning views of the Murray River and Hindmarsh Island (Open 7 days 9am-5pm)
